Pilates
“Through the Pilates Method of Body Conditioning this unique trinity of a balanced body, mind and spirit can ever be attained. Self-confidence follows.”
-Joseph Pilates
My personal Pilates journey started at age 12 at my competitive dance studio. We had a mat class every Saturday to warm our bodies up, work on core, glute, and leg strength, and find proper alignment. I fell in love immediately. I started Mat privates and eventually added Jumpboard privates and reformer classes. From a young age I struggled with anterior pelvic tilt, FAI in both hips, and very tight leg muscles. Even within two months of pilates all of that started to correct itself and my dancing transformed. Almost 12 years later, my pilates practice helped to transform not only my dancing, but my overall joint health, posture, and rehab from my ACL tear. During COVID, I decided it was time to become certified and dive even deeper into my passion for pilates. After 500 hours of work I became a Comprehensive Pilates Instructor through Club Pilates and now teach Mat, Reformer, Springboard, EXO Chair, Cadillac/RTC, Ladder Barrel, and different props/tools.
I accredit a huge part of my success as a dancer, educator, choreographer, and general fitness instructor to pilates. I use the principles daily and this practice has enriched my ability to correct my client’s misalignments, muscular imbalances, and flexibility in the muscles and joints. Pilates is a somatic practice. It strengthens the mind/body connection to promote healing and works on physical and mental mindfulness…. something that is useful and essential to all people and at any age. My methodology always remains the same, but the training program will change depending on the clients age, fitness level, and goals. I agree with the above and below quotes wholeheartedly. It is through pilates that I have gained a balanced and powerful body, mind, and spirit, as well as an overall sense of confidence as a dancer and healthy human!
“The mind, When Housed within a Healthful Body, POSSESSES a glorious sense of power” - Joseph Pilates
